Yashasvi Jaiswal Makes History in Men’s T20I Cricket
NEW DELHI: Yashasvi Jaiswal achieved a remarkable milestone in men’s T20I cricket by becoming the second batsman ever to hit sixes off the first two deliveries of a T20I match.
Indian opener Jaiswal created history during the fifth and final T20I of the series against Zimbabwe in Harare on Sunday.
The left-handed batsman smashed a massive slog sweep over midwicket off Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza on the first ball of the match, which was later called a no-ball for overstepping.
Having earned a free hit, Jaiswal took full advantage and sent the ball soaring down the ground for another maximum, bringing India’s score to 13 off just one ball.
Despite the explosive start, Jaiswal couldn’t maintain the momentum and fell victim to a yorker from Raza, resulting in his leg stump being knocked down.
It’s worth noting that Tanzania’s Ivan Selemani was the first player to hit sixes off the first two balls of a T20I match in 2022 against Rwanda’s Martin Akayezu.
Meanwhile, England’s Phil Salt showcased his power-hitting prowess by smashing back-to-back sixes off the first two deliveries of an innings. Salt’s impressive feat occurred during England’s T20 World Cup match against Oman last month.
