Remembering Dharmapuri Srinivas: A Political Luminary
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of former Congress president of united Andhra Pradesh and esteemed minister Dharmapuri Srinivas, who left us at 3 am today due to a sudden heart attack.
Srinivas’ Political Journey
Born on September 27, 1948, in Nizamabad district, Dharmapuri Srinivas embarked on his political odyssey after completing his education at Nizam College with the Congress party.
In 1989, he won his first election from Nizamabad Urban constituency, marking the beginning of his illustrious career as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA). He continued to serve as an MLA in subsequent terms in 1999 and 2004.
His leadership prowess was recognized when he was appointed as the President of the united Andhra Pradesh Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) in 1998, showcasing his dedication to the party at the state level.
During his tenure as a minister from 2004 to 2014 in united Andhra Pradesh, Dharmapuri Srinivas played a vital role in shaping the state’s political landscape. After the state’s bifurcation in 2014, he joined TRS in 2015 and later became a member of the Rajya Sabha.
Srinivas is survived by his two sons, one of whom, Dharmapuri Arvind, currently serves as the MP of Nizamabad. His elder son, Sanjay, has previously held the position of Mayor in Nizamabad.
Telangana Minister for Transport and BC Welfare, Ponnam Prabhakar, shared his condolences on Srinivas’ demise, acknowledging his significant contributions as a Minister and PCC Chief. He offered his sympathies to the family and prayed for strength during this difficult time.
Telangana Minister for Panchayat Raj and Rural Development, Women and Child Welfare, Dansari Anasuya Seethakka, also expressed deep condolences on Srinivas’ passing and prayed for his soul to rest in peace.
