MUMBAI: Tata Steel is taking a bold stand against the UK unit’s trade union, who has called for an indefinite strike starting July 8. The strike is in response to Tata Steel’s decision to close certain parts of its operations at the Port Talbot site.
The company’s plan involves closing two blast furnaces at Port Talbot and transitioning to lower carbon electric arc furnaces. This move is expected to result in the loss of 2,800 jobs. However, with the support of 500 million pounds of government funding, Tata Steel aims to revamp its struggling UK operations.
