Welcome Team India: Celebrating T20 World Cup Victory in Delhi!
The Indian cricket team, fresh from their spectacular T20 World Cup victory in Barbados, finally landed in Delhi on Thursday morning. They were greeted by a sea of enthusiastic fans at the Indira Gandhi International Airport as they arrived on a special Air India charter flight. The team, led by the outstanding Rohit Sharma, clinched the T20 world title, bringing home the country’s second win in this prestigious tournament and ending an 11-year drought for an ICC trophy. The thrilling victory came after a nail-biting seven-run triumph over South Africa in the final last Saturday.
The specially arranged Air India flight, named AIC24WC for “Air India Champions 24 World Cup,” took off from Bridgetown, Barbados, at 4:50 am local time on Wednesday and landed in Delhi at 6 am IST on Thursday, completing a nonstop 16-hour journey. The flight carried the Indian team, support staff, players’ families, board officials, and media representatives who had traveled with the team.
The team’s return was delayed due to the aftermath of hurricane Beryl, which forced a shutdown in the region. Despite the challenges, the team’s spirits were high as they finally arrived in Delhi to a warm reception from their fans.
Upon their arrival, the squad is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi at 9 am at his residence. Following the meeting, the team will fly to Mumbai, where they will be part of an open bus victory parade and receive honors at a felicitation ceremony at the iconic Wankhede Stadium.
