Rahul Dravid’s Memorable Journey as India’s Head Coach
NEW DELHI: Rahul Dravid, the esteemed head coach of the Indian cricket team, recently shared one of the most cherished moments of his life. It all began with a phone call from the team’s captain, Rohit Sharma, after their defeat in the ODI World Cup last year.
Under Dravid’s tutelage, India finally lifted an ICC World Cup trophy when they emerged victorious in the T20 World Cup in Barbados, led by Rohit Sharma. However, their hopes of winning the ODI World Cup were dashed when Australia defeated them in the final.
Despite the disappointment, Rohit Sharma’s phone call changed everything. He convinced Dravid to extend his tenure as head coach until the T20 World Cup, which deeply touched the former cricketer.
Dravid expressed his gratitude, saying, “For Rohit to pick up the phone and say, ‘Rahul, let’s have one more crack at it in six or eight months’ time. It will be lovely to have a crack at it together’. I am so thankful because I had the chance to work with an exceptionally great bunch of boys.”
When India finally lifted the T20 World Cup trophy, the joy was palpable. Dravid, known for his composure, couldn’t hide his emotions as he celebrated with the team.
Reflecting on his journey with the squad since 2021, Dravid praised the players’ hard work, resilience, and never-give-up attitude. He said, “It is truly a privilege to be able to coach and work with these boys.”
The bond he shared with the team was evident in his heartfelt words, as he remarked, “I am going to miss this love. What we have seen today is absolutely phenomenal.”
