India Secures Second T20 World Cup Title
NEW DELHI: India clinched their second T20 World Cup title with a nail-biting seven-run victory over South Africa in the final on Saturday. The heroics of pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah played a pivotal role in the team’s success. Captain Rohit Sharma lauded Bumrah’s ability to perform under pressure, which proved decisive in the win.
Bumrah and Hardik Pandya were instrumental for India, especially in the crucial final stages. Bumrah finished with figures of 2/18 in his four overs, while Hardik contributed 3/20 in three overs, including the crucial wicket of David Miller in the final over, supported by a sensational catch from Suryakumar Yadav.
“I have seen him for so many years, even playing alongside him, but even I don’t know what exactly is with him. He brings something unique to the table and executes it to perfection. Jasprit Bumrah is a class act,” Rohit remarked during the post-match presentation.
Hardik Pandya bowled a crucial 16th over, followed by Bumrah’s game-changing over that secured a wicket and conceded just two runs, tipping the balance in India’s favor.
India’s journey to the title started in New York and culminated in a thrilling win in Barbados. Rohit expressed his gratitude for the unwavering support from fans in the Caribbean and in India, who stayed up late to watch the match.
“Millions back home in India are watching this late-night game. They have been waiting a long time, just like us. This victory is for them. I am very proud of what we have achieved today,” Rohit concluded.
