President Droupadi Murmu’s recent speech at the joint sitting of Parliament has stirred up some controversy between the Opposition and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). While the NDA and BJP leaders have commended the speech, opposition leaders have criticized it, claiming that there was nothing innovative in the address.
Here’s a look at how some Opposition leaders reacted to President Murmu’s address:
AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi expressed disappointment over the lack of mention of minorities, unemployment, and the NEET exam row in the President’s speech. He remarked, “There was nothing groundbreaking in the address. It felt like old wine in a new bottle.” Owaisi also raised concerns about paper leaks and the impact on the lives of millions of young individuals and their families.
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor similarly took issue with the President referencing the 1975 Emergency in her speech, stating, “There was no relevance in discussing the Emergency after nearly five decades.” Tharoor believed that current issues such as the NEET exam and unemployment should have been addressed, along with topics like the India-China border.
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav emphasized that the President’s speech signifies the government’s stance, stating, “This speech is a tradition that represents the government’s views.” Similarly, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut criticized what he perceived as the President’s address being dominated by Prime Minister Modi’s vision.
On the other hand, NDA leaders stood by the President’s speech, with BJP MP Trivendra Singh Rawat defending it as a reflection of the government’s strategies for future development. LJP (Ram Vilas) MP Shambhavi Choudhary lauded the President for outlining the NDA government’s past achievements and future plans, suggesting that her address served as a valuable learning opportunity for new MPs.
President Droupadi Murmu’s address to Parliament marks an important milestone, setting the tone for the legislative agenda ahead. The varied reactions from political leaders underscore the diverse perspectives and priorities shaping the country’s political landscape.
