Prime Minister Modi Addresses Rajya Sabha Amid Opposition Uproar
Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday amidst uproar from members of the opposition. This came a day after he delivered a scathing attack on the Congress and Leader of Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, during a two-hour speech in the Lok Sabha.
PM Modi highlighted that the people of India rejected the politics of illusion in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and prioritized performance over propaganda. He emphasized that the work done by his government in the previous two terms had received whole-hearted support and blessings from the people of the country.
During his speech, PM Modi expressed gratitude towards Congress members as well. He mentioned the progress made in the past 10 years and emphasized that there are 20 more years to go. Despite disruptions from the opposition, the Prime Minister continued to address the house.
The PM’s address faced disruptions from opposition parties in the Rajya Sabha, led by Congress president Malikarjun Kharge. The protesting MPs demanded that the Leader of Opposition be allowed to speak in the upper house.
Later, the Congress-led INDIA bloc MPs staged a walkout in protest. PM Modi condemned this act by the opposition members, accusing them of avoiding the truth and escaping from facing reality.
Rajya Sabha chairperson Jagdeep Dhankhar also condemned the walkout, referring to it as a ‘disregard’ for the House of Elders and the Constitution.
Dhankhar criticized the behavior of the opposition, stating that they insulted the constitution by walking out and disregarding their oath. He expressed hope that they would introspect on their actions.
On Tuesday in the Lok Sabha, PM Modi continued his speech despite interruptions from opposition members chanting ‘Justice for Manipur’ and ‘Bharat Jodo’. He accused the Congress of insulting Hindus and conspiring against them.
In his extensive address to the Rajya Sabha, PM Modi discussed achievements, paper leaks, and the ethnic conflict in Manipur. He highlighted the gradual return of peace to Manipur due to government efforts.
Referring to the recent Lok Sabha elections, PM Modi stated that the people had given a mandate to the NDA for the third time. He emphasized the goal of making India the world’s third-largest economy as per the mandate received.
After walking out of the House, Mallikarjun Kharge accused PM Modi of lying in his speech and presenting false information. He criticized the Prime Minister for his alleged habit of lying repeatedly.
The first session of the 18th Lok Sabha, which commenced on June 24, witnessed 539 members taking oath or making affirmations over two days. The Lok Sabha adjourned sine die on July 2, while the Rajya Sabha was adjourned indefinitely on July 3.
