Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to address the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, following his impactful two-hour speech in the Lok Sabha. As the Lok Sabha adjourned on July 2 after the Prime Minister’s address, the Rajya Sabha will now continue debating the motion of thanks on the President’s Address from the previous week.

Undeterred by the chants of ‘Justice for Manipur’ and ‘Bharat Jodo’ from opposition members, PM Modi pressed on with his speech in the Lok Sabha. He accused the Congress and its ‘ecosystem’ of disrespecting Hindus and orchestrating a baseless scheme to portray Hindus as violent.
Calling for strict action against the events of Monday, which he described as a disrespect to the country’s values, PM Modi urged Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to take a stand. Without explicitly mentioning Rahul Gandhi, the Prime Minister alluded to the Leader of Opposition’s speech on July 1 attacking the BJP’s vision of India.
In his inaugural speech as the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi used posters of religious figures like Lord Shiva to criticize the ruling party. Some portions of his speech were expunged from the Parliament records on July 2.
The first session of the 18th Lok Sabha, which commenced on June 24, witnessed 539 members taking oath over seven sittings in the first two days. After PM Modi’s address on Wednesday, the Rajya Sabha is expected to come to a close.
