This week’s trailer round-up showcases thrilling payoffs and long-awaited sequels. Anthony Mackie finally steps into the spotlight in a major MCU film; Ridley Scott’s two-decade journey to bring a Gladiator sequel to life is bearing fruit; and the latest chapter in Severance finally unfolds.
From blockbuster movies to captivating TV series, there’s plenty to get excited about. Let’s dive in, starting with the MCU.
Captain America: Brave New World
In the latest Captain America: Brave New World trailer, Thaddeus Ross (Harrison Ford) tries to recruit Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) back into the U.S. military. Reluctant but compelled to act when super soldier Isaiah Bradley targets the President, Wilson steps into action.
This marks Mackie’s first lead role in an MCU film (and possibly the debut of Red Hulk!). The movie hits theaters on January 14, 2025, giving you plenty of time to catch up on The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
F1
Apple and Warner Bros’ high-budget F1 film won’t reach U.S. theaters until June 27, 2025. However, the teaser trailer already showcases intense racing action. Brad Pitt stars as Sonny Hayes, a seasoned driver persuaded to return to the track to mentor Joshua Pearse (Damson Idris) after a tragic crash in the 1990s.
Directed by Joseph Kosinski, known for his work on Top Gun: Maverick, the movie promises high-octane excitement. Interestingly, Pitt and Idris performed their own driving scenes, with much of the filming occurring at real Formula 1 races.
Gladiator II
Ridley Scott’s highly anticipated Gladiator sequel stars Paul Mescal as Lucius Verus, now an adult with fragmented memories of his mother, Lucilla (Connie Nielsen). Inspired by Russell Crowe’s Maximus, Lucius, now enslaved, allies with Macrinus (Denzel Washington) to lead his own uprising against Rome.
Featuring Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn, and Fred Hechinger, Gladiator II is set to premiere on November 22.
Time Bandits
Taika Waititi’s adaptation of Time Bandits retains the fantastical charm of Terry Gilliam’s original film while making significant changes. Notably, the Time Bandits are no longer played by little people.
The story follows a young boy on a time-bending adventure with a band of thieves. Starring Lisa Kudrow, Rune Temte, Kal-El Tuck, Tadhg Murphey, and Kiera Thompson, the series debuts on Apple TV+ on July 24.
Agatha All Along
In the WandaVision spinoff Agatha All Along, Rio Vidal (Aubrey Plaza) helps Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn) break free from an illusion that made her believe she was a detective solving a murder mystery. With her witchy powers diminished, Agatha must assemble a coven to restore them. The series streams on Disney+ starting September 18.
Severance
The anticipation is over—Severance season two is on its way! Over two years since the cliffhanger of season one, the new season premieres on January 17 on Apple TV+. The teaser released earlier this week hints at the return of characters Mark (Adam Scott), Helly (Britt Lower), Dylan (Zach Cherry), and Irving (John Turturro) without giving away any spoilers.
