The Rise of Megha Engineering & Infrastructure in the Nuclear Energy Sector
Hyderabad-based Megha Engineering & Infrastructure (MEIL) has recently clinched a major engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract worth Rs 12,800 crore from the state-owned Nuclear Power Corporation of India.
MEIL made headlines earlier for being the second-largest donor of electoral bonds, contributing a total of Rs 1,232 crore through direct donations and associated companies.
The company’s entry into the nuclear energy space is marked by its successful bid for the construction of 2x700MW electrical reactors at the Kaiga project in Karnataka. Despite facing competition from industry heavyweights like L&T and BHEL, MEIL emerged as the lowest bidder (L1) with a bid of Rs 12,800 crore.
The project, scheduled to be completed within 66 months from the date of award, holds significant importance in India’s clean energy journey. The Kaiga nuclear power generating station, situated in Uttara Kannada, Karnataka, currently operates with 4x220MW nuclear reactors. The addition of Kaiga 5 and 6 is expected to be a crucial milestone in advancing the country’s clean energy initiatives.
