Welcome to the exciting world of nuclear energy! Megha Engineering & Infrastructure Ltd (MEIL) has taken a remarkable leap into this space by securing a massive Rs 12,800 crore engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract from the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL).
This groundbreaking tender, the highest in value ever called by NPCIL, involves the construction of 2 x 700 MW electrical reactors at Kaiga in Karnataka under the department of atomic energy. Hyderabad-based MEIL triumphed over other leading contenders like BHEL and L&T to emerge as the lowest bidder for this prestigious project, which marks a significant milestone in India’s quest for clean and reliable nuclear energy.
MEIL director Ch Subbaiah expressed his enthusiasm by stating, “This contract signifies a major endeavor for MEIL and our strategic venture into the nuclear energy sector. The journey towards securing this contract began in May 2023, with the technical bid opening in October 2023. The selection process followed the quality-cum-cost-based selection (QCBS) methodology, ensuring a thorough assessment of technical proficiency and cost-effectiveness for all proposals.
