Stranded in Barbados due to Hurricane Beryl, the T20 World Cup-winning Indian cricket team is expected to return home on Tuesday evening. The team, along with their support staff, BCCI officials, and players’ families, faced delays in their departure after the island went into lockdown following the devastating storm.
Barbados’s Prime Minister, Mia Mottley, assured that the airport would be operational within the next six to 12 hours, allowing the team to make their way back home. Despite the challenges posed by Hurricane Beryl, the Indian cricket team remained in high spirits at their hotel, celebrating their recent victory over South Africa.
Prime Minister Mottley, actively involved in overseeing relief efforts, expressed optimism about restoring normal airport operations swiftly. She emphasized the importance of resuming flights to accommodate those stranded on the island.
While the hurricane narrowly missed Barbados’s mainland, the coastal regions and nearby islands suffered significant damage. Prime Minister Mottley stressed the urgency of recovery and cleanup efforts, especially with another hurricane forecasted to hit on Wednesday.
The Indian team’s triumph in the T20 World Cup marked the end of an 11-year ICC title drought, adding to the jubilant atmosphere despite their temporary setback in Barbados.
As preparations are underway for the team’s return journey, the anticipation is high for their safe arrival back home after a rollercoaster experience in the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl.
