Exciting Final Showdown Between India and South Africa in T20 World Cup 2024!
The stage is set for an epic battle as the two unbeaten teams of the 2024 T20 World Cup, India and South Africa, gear up for the summit clash. While India looks to break their 11-year ICC trophy drought, South Africa aims to shed their ‘chokers’ tag in their maiden World Cup final.
However, there’s a twist in the tale as rain is expected to play spoilsport in the final match scheduled to take place at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados, as per the weather forecast for the day. The forecast indicates a 51% probability of precipitation, with a risk of thunderstorms disrupting the game.
Adding to the suspense, tropical storm Beryl is heading towards Barbados, but its impact is anticipated only on Sunday. This raises concerns about the likelihood of the match getting postponed due to adverse weather conditions.
As per ICC regulations, if the game is delayed by no more than 60 minutes, a full 40-overs match will be played. But, if the match kicks off at 9 PM IST, a complete game will proceed, with a reduction in overs after the designated time.
In case of a rain-interrupted match, each team must bat for a minimum of 10 overs and there’s a buffer time of 190 minutes. This means a 10-overs per side game can’t start later than 11.10 PM IST. If the match fails to commence by then, it will be called off.
Contingency Plan for a Washout
Unlike the semi-final clash between India and England, a reserve day has been scheduled for the T20 World Cup 2024 final. If the match on June 29 gets abandoned due to weather conditions, the final will be rescheduled for June 30 at the same venue. The rain rules applicable on the original date will also be in force for the reserve day.
In a rare scenario where the match can’t be completed on the reserve day either, both India and South Africa will be declared joint winners of the tournament, reminiscent of the 2002 ICC Champions Trophy final when India and Sri Lanka shared the trophy.
