Exciting News: Government Allocates ₹700 Crore for Establishing Centres of Excellence at NIPERs
Great news for the pharmaceutical education sector! The Union government has set aside a hefty budget of ₹700 crore for the establishment of centres of excellence at the National Institutes of Pharmaceutical Education & Research (NIPER). This allocation is part of a comprehensive plan to enhance research and development in the Indian pharma industry.
At present, there are seven NIPERs located in key cities across India, including Mohali, Ahmedabad, Hajipur, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Guwahati, and Rae Bareli.
According to the Department of Pharmaceuticals, the steering committee has approved a budget outlay of ₹700 crore over five years for the establishment of these centres. A significant portion of ₹243 crore has been approved for the year 2024-25.
Recognizing the importance of research in the pharma industry, these centres will focus on areas like medical device manufacturing, bulk drug R&D, phytopharmaceuticals, biological therapeutics, and drug discovery and development.
With a growing emphasis on innovation and quality, the government aims to elevate India’s pharmaceutical sector to global standards, ensuring the safety and efficacy of drugs produced in the country.
