Italian Tennis Sensation Jasmine Paolini’s Remarkable Journey
NEW DELHI: Despite facing defeat in the Wimbledon final against Barbora Krejcikova, Jasmine Paolini is laser-focused on maintaining her recent surge and aiming for future success.
The Italian, who achieved a career-high ranking of world number five after the tournament, admitted the challenge of dealing with two consecutive Grand Slam final losses following her defeat to Iga Swiatek at the French Open.
“Sometimes I’m a little bit scared to dream too much. I have to say that. I don’t know. I’m going back, trying to practice, to stay in the present, as I said many times. This is the goal for me, my team, to try to keep this level as much as possible. If I keep this level, I think I can have the chance to do great things,” said Paolini, as quoted by AFP.
Before this year’s Australian Open, the 28-year-old had never advanced beyond the second round of a Grand Slam event. Her recent string of results, including a finals appearance at Roland Garros and a career-best run at Wimbledon, solidifies her as a rising star in the tennis world.
Despite the disappointment of losing two major finals in quick succession, Paolini stressed the significance of staying grounded and focusing on the present.
“Today I was dreaming to hold the trophy, but it didn’t go well,” she said. “I’m just enjoying the position where I am right now, five in the world. It’s unbelievable, honestly. I just did two finals in two Grand Slams. I have to be also happy with the results. Also a little bit disappointed.”
Paolini’s ability to navigate the emotional complexities of high-stakes competition while keeping her eyes on her long-term goals will be crucial as she continues to establish herself as a force in women’s tennis.
