7th Anniversary Celebration of GST in Visakhapatnam
The 7th anniversary celebration of the Goods and Service Tax (GST) in Visakhapatnam was a momentous occasion where D Suryaprakash Rao, the Vice Chancellor of DSNL University, delivered an insightful speech.
Rao praised the GST law as a true reflection of India’s federal structure, emphasizing how it has empowered states to create development programs and contribute to building a stronger nation. He also commended the efforts of officers in collecting substantial GST revenue.
The event, organized by the Visakhapatnam Central GST Zone, featured Indian cricketer K.S. Bharat as a guest speaker. Bharat encouraged parents in the audience to allow their children to engage in sports activities for their overall development.
Principal Commissioner Sridhar reported that the Visakhapatnam Zone, covering the entire state of Andhra Pradesh, has contributed Rs. 24,851 crores in the fiscal year 2023-24. The zone’s growth rate of 11.32% is on par with the national revenue growth.
The number of Central Tax assesses in Andhra Pradesh has seen a significant increase from approximately 58,000 taxpayers in 2017 to 1.89 lakhs in 2023-24. Sridhar congratulated the officers of the zone for being the best in the country in 4 out of 11 parameters, as evaluated by the Directorate General of GST in New Delhi. Commissioner (Audit) Rishi Goel and other officials also participated in the event.
