The CBSE Debunks Rumors About Biannual Board Examinations
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) made a statement on Monday to clarify that there has been no discussion with the Ministry of Education (MoE) regarding the possibility of conducting biannual board examinations. Reports circulating in certain sections of the media suggesting that CBSE has informed the education ministry about the impracticality of biannual exams for classes 10 and 12 under the current academic schedule have been dismissed by the board.
Taking to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), CBSE denied the claims made in the news reports and emphasized that there has been no communication between the ministry and CBSE regarding this issue. The board asserted that the information is incorrect and lacks any basis in reality.
Earlier, various media outlets had reported that during a program on the National Curriculum Framework 2023 at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on June 25, CBSE expressed its view that conducting board exams twice a year for classes 10 and 12 is unfeasible due to the current system and policies, especially considering the global presence of CBSE schools.
The National Curriculum Framework (NCF) had recommended biannual exams in order to provide students with more opportunities to excel and achieve better scores. The NCF also suggested that holding board exams twice a year would help reduce the workload and stress on students.
