Breaking News: Bihar to Offer MBBS Courses in Hindi
Exciting news for aspiring medical students in Bihar! The Bihar government has announced a groundbreaking decision to offer Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery, and MBBS courses in Hindi. This move makes Bihar the second state, after Madhya Pradesh, to provide this opportunity for students.
The State Health Minister, Mangal Pandey, revealed this significant development on Tuesday, July 2nd. Starting from the upcoming session, students will have the option to pursue their MBBS studies in Hindi. This decision reflects the government’s commitment to promoting the Hindi language and making it a global medium of education.
Minister Pandey emphasized that the Health Department of Bihar, under the leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, thoroughly evaluated various factors before implementing this historic step. The availability of Hindi textbooks for the MBBS course was a key consideration in this decision-making process.
The new MBBS course in Hindi will be aligned with the AIIMS Delhi syllabus and will be open to students who clear the NEET UG 2024 exam. With approximately 85,000 government schools in the state using Hindi as the primary medium of instruction, this initiative is poised to benefit a large number of students.
The First State to Introduce MBBS in Hindi
Madhya Pradesh was the first state to introduce an MBBS curriculum in Hindi. However, despite initial enthusiasm, the response from students was lukewarm. Education minister Vishwas Sarang’s announcement and Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s unveiling of MBBS course books in Hindi marked a significant milestone.
Yet, months after its introduction, medical colleges in Madhya Pradesh faced challenges in attracting students to the Hindi medium MBBS program. Reports from Education Times revealed that only 25 out of 250 students in the MBBS batch chose to pursue their studies in Hindi at Gandhi Medical College in Bhopal.
This latest move by the Bihar government reflects a bold step towards inclusive education and language empowerment. By offering MBBS courses in Hindi, the state aims to provide a level playing field for students and contribute to the wider dissemination of medical knowledge in the Hindi language.
