New Delhi: In a commendable gesture, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has swiftly come to the aid of former Indian cricketer Anshuman Gaekwad, who is currently fighting cancer. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has instructed the Apex Council to release a sum of Rs 1 crore immediately to provide financial assistance to the veteran player.
Not stopping at just financial aid, Shah has personally reached out to Gaekwad’s family to assess the situation and offer any necessary support. The board has pledged to closely monitor Gaekwad’s progress during his treatment and remains hopeful of his recovery.
Expressing unwavering solidarity, the cricket board has assured its full support to the former player and his family in this challenging period.
Former India captain Kapil Dev has also appealed to the BCCI to extend financial help to his ex-teammate Gaekwad. At 71 years old, Gaekwad has been facing health issues and undergoing treatment.
Dev disclosed that a group of former cricketers, including Mohinder Amarnath, Sunil Gavaskar, Sandeep Patil, Dilip Vengsarkar, Madan Lal, and Ravi Shastri, among others, have joined hands to raise funds for Gaekwad’s medical expenses. These stalwarts have actively participated in fundraising efforts to aid their fellow cricketer in his time of need.
