Team India Celebrates T20 World Cup Victory with Grand Parade
NEW DELHI: The joy and excitement of Team India’s T20 World Cup victory were on full display as they paraded through Marine Drive in an open bus. Led by skipper Rohit Sharma, the team reveled in the celebratory atmosphere, reminiscent of their inaugural T20 World Cup win in 2007.
Rohit Sharma, reflecting on the celebrations, commented, “2007 was a different feeling. We started off in the afternoon and this is in the evening. I cannot forget 2007 as it was my first World Cup, but this is a little more special because I was leading the team, so it’s a very proud moment for me. This is going to be mad,” Rohit said in a video posted by the BCCI.
Even before the team landed in Mumbai from Delhi, a swarm of cricket fans had gathered along the route from the NCPA gates to the Wankhede Stadium, braving the rain showers to catch a glimpse of their victorious team. The enthusiasm and support from the fans overwhelmed Rohit, who expressed his gratitude to the nation for their unwavering support.
Upon reaching Wankhede Stadium, the team took a lap of honor amidst thunderous applause, with Rohit dedicating the T20 WC title “to the entire nation”. Addressing the crowd, Rohit emphasized the collective effort of the players in securing the victory.
In 2007, the open bus parade took almost six hours to reach Wankhede, bringing the city to a standstill. This time around, although the distance was shorter, the fans’ enthusiasm was just as intense. The scenes of jubilation matched, if not surpassed, those of the 2007 parade and the 2011 ODI World Cup triumph at the same venue.
As the celebrations continued, Rohit encouraged the fans to join in and celebrate the historic victory, creating a memorable moment for Indian cricket and its passionate supporters.
