Record-Breaking Heatwave Hits Russia
Russians are currently experiencing some of the hottest weather in over a century, with temperatures soaring well above 35 degrees Celsius (95 Fahrenheit) across the country. The city of Moscow broke a 1917 record on July 3, reaching a scorching 32.7 degrees Celsius, according to the FOBUS weather center.
From the Pacific coast to the depths of Siberia, record temperatures have been recorded throughout Russia. The extreme heatwave has led to a surge in demand for air conditioners and fans, while residents in Moscow have been indulging in plenty of ice creams and cold drinks to beat the heat. Water is being distributed to commuters in the metro and on trains to help them stay cool.
Mayor Sergei Sobyanin has advised the residents of Moscow and its surrounding areas, with a population exceeding 20 million, to take precautions and avoid going outside during the hottest parts of the day. He also warned of thunderstorms and the possibility of hail expected on Friday.
Despite the extreme heat, the Russian spirit remains resilient as they adapt to these unprecedented weather conditions. The scorching temperatures have brought communities together, as they find ways to stay cool and support each other during this challenging time.
