Prime Minister Narendra Modi is making notable efforts to bring peace to Manipur, with both the State and Centre engaging in discussions with all stakeholders to ensure peace and stability in the region. Modi has urged everyone to cooperate in this important endeavor.
During a debate on the ‘Motion of Thanks’ on the President’s address in the Rajya Sabha, PM Modi highlighted that incidents of violence in Manipur are on the decline. With 11000 FIRs filed and 500 arrests made, the situation in Manipur is gradually improving. Modi expressed optimism that peace is achievable and the government is working diligently to control the situation.
Addressing the issue of inter-tribe atrocities in Manipur, Modi emphasized the deep-rooted nature of this problem. He urged against politicizing the Manipur issue, stating that one day Manipur will reject any attempts to exploit its challenges for political gain.
Opposition stages walk out
During PM Modi’s response to the debate, opposition MPs from the INDIA bloc staged a walkout in protest. They were discontented as the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, was not given an opportunity to speak. This led to a display of slogans against the Prime Minister and their eventual walkout.
Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar condemned the actions of the INDIA bloc MPs, accusing them of challenging the Constitution with their behavior.
Dhankhar expressed disappointment in the opposition MPs for disrespecting their oath of office and undermining the spirit of the Constitution through their walkout.
He emphasized that the walkout by the opposition MPs was a blatant insult to the Constitution of India, and he called for them to introspect on their actions.
Jagdeep Dhankhar defended the decision to provide LoP Kharge with ample speaking time without interruptions, emphasizing the importance of upholding the dignity of the House and the Constitution.
He concluded by stating that the walkout by the opposition MPs was a severe insult to the Constitution of India and undermined the core principles of democracy and parliamentary debate.
