Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made it clear that his government is committed to rooting out corruption by giving full autonomy to central probe agencies. He emphasized that tackling corruption is not just a duty but a strong belief that drives him.
“I have empowered central agencies to crack down on corruption without any interference. If they work honestly and with integrity, the government will not obstruct their efforts. Rest assured, I guarantee that no one will escape justice,” PM Modi declared during the debate on the Motion of Thanks on the President’s address in the Rajya Sabha.
PM Modi’s statements were in response to allegations from the opposition about the misuse of central agencies by his administration. Several opposition leaders, such as Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, have faced charges of money laundering.
The Opposition has continuously criticized the government for what they perceive as targeted investigations by agencies like the ED, CBI, and Income Tax department.
PM Modi highlighted instances before 2014 when opposition leaders accused the Congress-led UPA government of manipulating investigating agencies. He referenced the late Mulayam Singh Yadav’s criticism of the Congress government for misusing central agencies. The PM also mentioned the 2013 Supreme Court ruling that likened the CBI to a “caged parrot.”
During PM Modi’s address in the Rajya Sabha, opposition members led by Congress president Malikarjun Kharge disrupted proceedings by demanding the Leader of the Opposition’s speech. Slogans were raised, adding chaos to the session.
The Congress-led INDIA bloc MPs of Rajya Sabha staged a walkout in protest, prompting the PM to condemn their behavior as an attempt to evade the truth. He stood firm in his commitment to eradicating corruption and ensuring accountability.
