Novak Djokovic Cruises to Victory in Wimbledon First Round
NEW DELHI: The seven-time Wimbledon champion, Novak Djokovic, put all doubts about his knee to rest with a convincing performance on Tuesday. He defeated Czech qualifier Vit Kopriva in straight sets 6-1, 6-2, 6-2 to advance to the second round.
Djokovic, who had undergone a minor operation on his knee less than four weeks ago, showed no signs of discomfort as he dominated the match. Wearing a support on his right leg, Djokovic started strong and broke Kopriva’s serve in a crucial fourth game.
The Serbian, aiming for his 25th Grand Slam title to end his trophy drought this year, displayed his class on Centre Court. He took the first set comfortably under the roof.
As the match progressed, Djokovic continued to apply pressure on Kopriva, clinching key points with his powerful shots. In the second set, an intense 21-shot rally ended with Djokovic letting out a fierce roar after securing another break.
Despite showing some resistance in the third set, Kopriva was no match for the second seed Djokovic’s skill and experience. Djokovic elevated his game and dominated the remainder of the match, securing a convincing victory.
With this win, Djokovic has set the tone for his Wimbledon campaign and looks determined to add another title to his illustrious career.
