India Emerges Victorious in 2024 T20 World Cup
The day after India’s thrilling victory in the 2024 T20 World Cup under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, the team celebrated on the beaches of Barbados for an official photoshoot with the prestigious trophy. The final match against South Africa on June 29 at the Kensington Oval ended in a nail-biting seven-run victory for India, marking their second win in the history of the tournament, the first being in 2007 under MS Dhoni’s leadership.
Rohit Sharma, the captain of the victorious team, proudly posed with the trophy on the sandy shores, and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared these memorable images on social media.
India batted first in the final, with Virat Kohli scoring 76 runs and Axar Patel contributing 47 runs to set a challenging total of 176 for 7 on the board. South Africa’s run-chase looked promising with Heinrich Klaasen scoring 52 and Quinton de Kock adding 39 runs. However, a stellar performance by Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, and Arshdeep Singh turned the tide in India’s favor.
Highlights of the match included Suryakumar Yadav’s spectacular catch on the boundary line to dismiss David Miller and timely strikes by Pandya and Bumrah, which restricted South Africa to 169/8, securing India’s victory and the coveted title of World Champions once again.
The BCCI’s emotional caption on social media summed up the nation’s joy, “A billion dreams, a billion emotions, and a billion smiles! Mission accomplished. World Cup conquered. We are World Champions. Hey, Captain! You’ve done it.”
