The recently concluded T20 World Cup witnessed some incredible performances from players around the globe. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has now unveiled its ‘Team of the Tournament’ to honor the standout performers who dazzled fans with their skills on the field.
Despite his heroics in the final that led India to victory over South Africa, Virat Kohli missed out on a spot in the select squad. Kohli’s brilliant knock of 76 runs off 59 balls in the final was instrumental in India lifting their second T20 World Cup title in a nail-biting finish.
The ICC XI featured six Indian players, showcasing the team’s strong overall performance in the tournament. Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Jasprit Bumrah, and Arshdeep Singh were all deservedly included in the lineup.
Rohit Sharma emerged as one of the top performers, amassing 257 runs at an impressive strike rate of 156.7, making him the second-highest run-scorer in the tournament. Jasprit Bumrah, who was named Player of the Tournament, showcased his bowling prowess by taking 15 wickets and maintaining an exceptional economy rate of 4.17.
Afghanistan also made its mark in the ICC team, with three players earning a spot. Fazalhaq Farooqi and Arshdeep Singh led the wicket-taking charts with 17 scalps each, while Rahmanullah Gurbaz topped the run charts with 281 runs. Captain Rashid Khan’s leadership and performance with the ball earned him a well-deserved place in the squad.
Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis and West Indies’ Nicholas Pooran added balance to the team with their stellar performances. South Africa, despite finishing as runners-up, did not have a player in the XI, with pacer Anrich Nortje named as the 12th man.
The ICC’s ‘Team of the Tournament’ is a true reflection of the mix of individual brilliance and consistent performances that lit up the T20 World Cup. The selected players showcased their talent and made a significant impact, entertaining fans worldwide with their spectacular skills on the field.
