20 July 2022, New Delhi: The Indian cricket team’s journey back home has hit a roadblock due to the impact of hurricane Beryl. Led by Rohit Sharma, the team recently clinched the T20 World Cup title in a thrilling victory.
The menacing hurricane Beryl, originating from the Atlantic, has intensified with wind speeds reaching up to 210 kmph, classified as a Category 4 hurricane. Currently, it is positioned approximately 570km east-southeast of Barbados, leading to the imminent closure of the Bridgetown airport.
The original plan for the team was to board an Emirates flight from New York with a stopover in Dubai. However, given the prevailing circumstances, a source revealed that a charter flight has been arranged to fly the team directly back to Delhi. There are even talks of a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi upon their arrival.
The Indian delegation, comprising players, coaching staff, family members, and officials, totals around 70 individuals. Following their impressive victory against South Africa in the final, India ended an 11-year wait for an ICC championship, securing their second T20 World Cup title.
Virat Kohli’s stellar performance with a 59-ball 76 paved the way for India to reach 176/7 before restricting South Africa to 169/8, clinching the coveted trophy they last won in 2007.
