Elon Musk’s X Platform Bans Over 5 Lakh Accounts in India
Elon Musk’s social media platform, X (formerly Twitter), has taken strict action by banning over 5 lakh accounts in India. According to Reuters, these accounts were banned between January 26 and February 25 for violating multiple policies set by the platform.
Total X accounts banned in February
The reports indicate that X has banned 5,06,173 accounts for promoting child sexual exploitation and non-consensual nudity. Additionally, the platform also suspended 1,982 accounts for promoting terrorism in the country. This totals to 5,08,155 accounts banned during the said period in India. X has received approximately 14,421 complaints from Indian users through its grievance redressal mechanisms, with 41 requests related to account suspensions.
The company stated, “We overturned 1 of these account suspensions after reviewing the specifics of the situation. The remaining reported accounts remain suspended.” It further added, “We received 71 requests related to general questions about accounts during this reporting period.”
This practice of banning accounts for policy violations is not new for X. Between December 26 and January 25, the platform banned around 2,31,215 accounts in India, including 1,945 accounts for promoting terrorism.
Tips to prevent X account from getting banned
To avoid having your X account suspended, ensure to comply with the platform’s policies. Refrain from posting content related to child sexual exploitation and non-consensual nudity.
